50501 Bates Lights USMC Boot Review

August 23, 2007

The Bates Lights USMC Authorized boots are an excellent boot made by a company that has been serving the department of defense for 120 years. Bates 50501 lights boots are certified by the US Marine corps. These are the lightest USMC authorized boot on the market. These boots are a must have for most marines they are very easy to break in and are easy on the feet.  They are usually recommended for all OCS canidates because they are great for physical training which the candidates do plenty of, also they are not issued   Since the Bates Lights is so light it is a good choice for all the training coarses the candidates have to perform, But this boot is also a good choice for a everyday boot too since it is so light and comfortable. At Quantico boot we always keep a full stock of all Bates Lights  sizes in both widths regular and wide also they are available on the website.  We also  offer the straight issue type boots from Bates such as the Bates USMC Hot Weather 25501 and the Bates USMC 85501 ICB or waterpoof boot  as well as alternative styles such as the Bates 30501 USMC boot with the bob sole which is also featured on the Bates ICB. Please visit us at quanticoboot.com for all your USMC boot needs.  Please feel free to let us know how you like your Bates Lights Boots or any other USMC boots here or come on by the store if your your in Quantico.

I will be heading back to PLC Sr’s next summer and was told that these Bates would be good for all of the boots and utes running that we do. Is it a better idea to wear a different set during humps and FTX so that they don’t fall apart?

You shouldn’t need to buy 2 sets of the Bates lights for one session of OCS.

All of the Marine Corps approved boots are garbage, but I would have to say that these are the best bang for your buck.

@Roland I’d wear the same pair for everything. The only reason you’d need two is if they got wet (obviously you wouldn’t want to wear them until they are dry).

They are a terrific pair on and off the field. Used mine in snow, sleet, rain, sand, mud and all. Pretty lightweight too.

I used these for plc-combined 201 and they were great for the o-course, e-course, and the cft. The only problem I had with them was getting up the rope at the end of the o-course. I made it. Through with good time but since we were doing it in the morning, the grass was covered in dew and these soles didn’t grip well wet. I ended up using my cold weather ICBs for the graded runs. Otherwise, great buy. Also, I got these on my 2nd or 3rd libo from quantico boot, great store.

I just got back from Quantico Boot after purchasing my second pair of Bates Lites. I wouldn’t call them God’s gift to the Corps but they sure get the job done. The gentleman behind the counter knew what he was talking about and was quite helpful. I’d recommend this shop and its wares to all Marines.

I just picked up a pair of Bates Lights for PT. These boots are very light and excellent for running, but I would not recommend them heavy duty use. My dress shoe size is a 9.5 and I purchased a size 9 in these boots. Quantico Boot helped me with sizing, the proper socks, and with a lot of general boot knowledge. I will be a repeat customer and I recommend them to everyone.

Quantico Boot has a great selection of footware. I was particularly looking for a new pair of bates lights for PT. For all you future Marine Officer’s heading to OCS, I highly recommend the company, and these boots. You will get the most out of the physical training with a pair of bates lights, as they are specifically designed for PT, and other activities that require you to be light on your feet.

Bates Lights are crucial at OCS. I used them at Jrs and they saved my legs especially after humps wearing the lights around for daily activities instead of the heavier boots helps your legs recover. Crucial is all I can say.

I purchased the Bates Lights prior to coming to Jr’s. They’re great for the O-Course and the CFT but I wouldn’t recommend them for humps as a lot of them have a seam that digs into your feet. Overall though they are a great pair of low-weight boots that can be used for any physical activity where you need to be quick.
